The dog days of summer can take its
toll on everyone in the South. And running a
business with rising utility costs during the summer
months is an issue that all company’s face and
accept. Well, maybe not all. Santa Maria Produce
in Shreveport, LA saw dollar bills running out the
door every day and decided to do something about it.
Contacting the professionals at NECI,
it was identified that large utility costs were
being experienced due to design issues at the
loading docks. With activity at a feverish pace,
the dock doors at the facility were open to delivery
trucks coming in and out continuously during the
day.
The older facility had oversize door
openings that were 10’x10’ and a low dock height of
only 30”. Nelson evaluated the situation and
proposed a method to close down the dock openings to
92” wide x 120” high with a 24” drop curtain and 18”
removable bottom pad shrinking the usable height
down to 78” , installed new dock doors and created a
removable bottom seal that sealed the opening
around today’s higher delivery truck vans.
