Nelson Equipment Company News & Information

December, 2007

Happy Holidays from the NECI Family

It is with humbled appreciation that we thank each of you for the opportunity we have had to work with you over this past year.  Long ago, our company adopted the philosophy of being “like a family”  While like any family member, sometimes you see our spots, but in the final analysis there is nobody better that you can count on when needed most.  I personally hope that you have found that as the case with us this year when working with us.

2008 will bring with it some exciting new features to serve our customers better.  During the 1st quarter we plan to unveil our new website that is being designed to provide technical and cost estimating tools to benefit engineers in developing and estimating projects.  We will also expand the capabilities of our e-commerce purchasing tools which will allow customers to search and purchase equipment on-line from us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  And later in the year we plan incorporating customer order status information on our website to keep you up to date on your projects status.

Our offices will be closed at noon on December 24th and all day December 25th for Christmas.  As in the past, our automated telephone system will page those on call to answer any emergency calls.  Our offices will be open all day on December 31st.

To all of you and your family, our family here at Nelson, wish you the warmest and safest Holiday.

Merry Christmas
The NECI Family

Grocery Store Chain understands the
Ups and Downs of Business

The County Market knows all too well what is required to serve the consumer.  Good products, affordable pricing, and abundant inventory on well stocked shelves is the key to the retail grocery business.  That is easy when you can get your product to the shelves.  That all ended one day abruptly when the Aging Vertical Reciprocating Conveyor (VRC) they had finally gave up its last breath.  This unit served at the dock level and brought product down to floor level and also took reserve stock to the upper level mezzanine.  When it quit working, everything had to be manually handled off the dock to get it into the store.  And forget trying to get it up the stairs.  It was a nightmare that would not end for all employees involved.

NECI’s customer development manager, Susan Hutchinson paid a visit to the store and discovered the problem.  Acting quickly, she had the application surveyed and began working toward a solution.  That is when more problems where discovered.  The old VRC lift had been installed before the dock and building walls were built.  There was never any forethought of how you would get it out of the building.  That problem fell on the shoulders of the NECI project manager.  This required NECI technicians to “cut” the existing lift into pieces that could be handled and moved out of the building through the dock doors.  NECI application engineers worked with Wildeck (Milwaukee, WI) to create a design for a new lift that not only would meet the application requirements but could be received and installed in the tight space constraints.

A solution was designed and the entire installation including the old VRC being removed and the new Wildeck VRC installed was completed in 3 days.

The next time you have a material flow opportunity that runs vertically, call Susan and the professionals at Nelson to get you through the “ups and downs” of your process.

New Project Estimating Tool for Engineers now Available

Hytrol Conveyor has developed a handy project estimating tool to help Engineers and Management to quickly develop project cost estimates for conveyor systems.  This tool is developed around Hytrol’s 24 hour shipment inventory and also provides installation estimates so that a quick snapshot can be taken of a project.

This in no way replaces Nelson’s field engineering support services but will allow individuals to establish cost justification perimeters quickly so that a project can move forward quickly.  In addition, since it is based around a quick delivery inventory by Hytrol, engineers can identify products that will meet the need of the application as well as the time constraints.

For your free copy of this estimating tool, please contact Susan Hutchinson at shutchinson@nelsonequipment.com.  Please provide your name, title, company name, mailing address, and telephone number.  The booklet will be mailed to your attention.
