Lift Trucks Among Top 10 OSHA Violations In 2010

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released its Top 10 most-cited violations list in 2010. Of the approximately 94,000 violations that OSHA handed out this year, the Top 10 account for 49% of the total violations. Powered industrial trucks were the eighth-most-cited violation, accounting for 3,224 violations. Lift trucks were also eighth in 2009 with 2,993 violations. Each year, tens of thousands of injuries related to powered industrial trucks occur in U.S. workplaces. Many employees are injured when lift trucks are inadvertently driven off loading docks, fall between docks and an unsecured trailer, fall while on elevated pallets and tines or accidentally strike an employee or bystander. OSHA cited inadequate training as the biggest reason for the violations.
