Trailers Must Be Restrained Prior to Loading and Unloading
OSHA Regulations, Subpart N, Section 1910.178 Powered Industrial Trucks

Over the past month, Nelson Equipment Co., Inc. has been consulted on shipping and receiving department issues pertaining to the loading and unloading of trucks and trailers with the use of powered industrial trucks. Through this work, it has become evident that a reminder should be given to all customers who ship and receive goods by truck that particular care should be given to the restraining of the truck and trailer prior to accessing it with any powered industrial truck.

OSHA section (m) (7) stipulates: "Brakes shall be set and wheel blocks shall be in place to prevent movement of trucks, trailers, or railroad cars while loading or unloading."

  • Before entering a tractor trailer, make certain that the wheels are chocked.
  • Before entering a railcar, make certain that the brake is set or that the wheel stops are in place.

Nelson Equipment Co., Inc. provides simple solutions to this issue beginning with various styles of wheel chocks to fully automated and integrated trailer restraints. These products MUST be available at all times for use in your facility.

Nelson Equipment Co., Inc. also suggests that signage be posted inside and outside of loading dock areas indicating this as a company policy to further alleviate negligence.

If you would like to have one of our staff meet with you and review your facility to make recommendations and suggestions that will keep your organization compliant, you can contact us at 800-523-6199.

Partnership Propels Production to Dramatic Increase

One additional assembly process was integrated into the existing system.

What happens when a leading manufacturer of quality flow control products to the Plumbing, HVAC & Refrigeration and Industrial markets needs to increase productivity quickly without disrupting their existing production output? You go back to your successful partnership with Nelson Equipment Co., Inc. and Hytrol Conveyor to design a working solution. And that's exactly what took place when Mark Nelson was contacted to integrate design changes to a system that he created for them over 4 years earlier.

Hytrol Model 25CRR, Model TL, Model 19SR, and specially designed roller transfers

Working with the company's maintenance and engineering department, a solution was created that allowed engineered components to be "inserted" into the existing system. This existing system allowed for an additional assembly process to be created, allowing productivity to be increased dramatically. And it all took place over a weekend shut down.

Due to the outstanding in-house capabilities of the maintenance and engineering department, all system programming, electrical field wiring and air power was done in advance of the arrival of the components. Once the equipment arrived, it was assembled and wired in a matter of hours, not days.

At system start-up, the design functioned flawlessly. Production is now on the increase!

The new assembly line increased production output.

Span-Track Heavy Duty Roller Lanes

Galvanized steel rollers can support heavier weights over longer spans.

Unex Gravity Conveyor is the perfect carton flow product for live storage applications when a heavy-duty roller is needed. The conveyor provides a more flexible and durable product for special applications, allowing for storage and retrieval of products previously too heavy for conventional designs.

Three models of Unex's Span Track are available for your applications:
     JRS: 1 3/8" dia. Rollers
     MRS: 1.9" dia. Rollers
     Skatewheel: 1 15/16" wheel

New and Affordable Ceiling Fan
Keeps Employees Comfortable

Summer's coming, and we all know how it feels to work in a warehouse with no ventilation - miserable! Don't drag through another hot, sticky summer. MacroAir Technologies has designed a new series of affordable Airvolution ceiling fans designed for one major reason: to keep employees comfortable and productive.

MacroAir fans range in size from 8 feet to 24 feet in diameter.

The new fans not only deliver a consistent uniform breeze, they'll save you a lot of money. Why?

First, MacroAir's new, extra-wide blade, the Whisperfoil XL airfoil, is the perfect aerodynamic shape to move large masses of air seamlessly and efficiently.

Second, MacroAir's new six blade design saves on material cost, and that savings is passed right along to you! These fans cost hundreds of dollars less than those other guys! The new designs are more mechanically efficient too, and have even longer motor and gearbox lives.

Third, these fans run for pennies an hour! Energy costs are rising. If you have an HVAC system, you know how expensive it is to run it. With these energy efficient fans, you can leverage your existing HVAC system by running it less and still provide a comfortable place to work.

We can offer you a more comfortable facility. Just give us a call and we will be happy to quickly deliver and install as many fans as you need to keep you and your employees happy and productive.

One more thing, the fans are reversible for winter application. They will save you a ton of money on heating costs too! We all know how much heat collects at the ceiling level. When winter comes, just reverse the fans and move the hot air down along the walls and to the floor.

You can't go wrong with a MacroAir ceiling fan for summer cooling and winter warming applications.
