I would like to take this opportunity to thank the employees and vendors of Nelson Equipment for going above and beyond what is expected under normal business situations. As we all know, in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, business has been far from usual.

Employees did everything from "hot shotting" inventory items on Labor Day to customers in need of them, to helping out as volunteers in shelters and other assistance areas on their own time. I have always been proud of the team assembled here at Nelson Equipment Co., Inc., but under these circumstances, I have been simply overwhelmed.

And to those vendors that have gone above and beyond to give assistance to our customers, a big thank you. Not to mention the many of you who provided financial aid directly to this area to help people get back on their feet quickly.

There is much left to do. I am confident it will get done because of people like you in the community.

Mark K. Nelson, PCMH
President
Nelson Equipment Co., Inc.

Install Weather Seals Around Your Dock Levelers

Weather seals can reduce your utility costs and provide a better working environment for your employees.

Most pit-mounted dock levelers allow you to field install weather seal around the perimeter of the leveler. By doing so, cold drafts can be minimized at the dock door area of the facility. This is a cost-effective way to reduce utility costs and also provide employees with a better working environment.

This is also a good time to check the seals at the bottom of your roll-up doors.

Contact Nelson Equipment Co., Inc. at 800-523-6199 and ask for a technician to assist you in this cost-saving measure.

MxV Impact Door Knocks Out Competition

The MxV Impact Door has an upward biased, counter-balanced design.

The MxV Impact Door is a virtually maintenance-free knockout door from D.L. Manufacturing. MxV features an ergonomic design and sleek appearance. Its lightweight, 3-inch-thick, foam-filled panels are tough--they take a hit and return to their original form and function--and they offer an R-value of 16. Panels interlock, which means no hinges or areas that may pinch fingers. Brush seals are placed on the top, bottom and sides of the door. MxV comes in sizes up to 10 feet wide by 10 feet high, and is available with optional truck guards, locks and a circular light.

Vertical Lift

The Unimove Vertical Lift can reach a height of 7 feet, 2 inches.

A four-year-old Unimove Vertical Lift, model CM700, is now available for purchase at a cost of $4,500. This unit is a Nelson Equipment demo unit and is in like-new condition. If purchased new today, the cost would be over $7,000. Free delivery in Louisiana will provide additional savings.

The lift has a capacity of 220 pounds non-porous and 175 pounds porous. It is powered by a 208-230/460 VAC, 3-Phase, 60 Hz motor.

Katrina Calls For PM And Installation Services

Immediately after Hurricane Katrina hit the New Orleans area, UPS Logistics contacted Kurt Nelson, vice president of Nelson Equipment Co., Inc., to discuss the possibility of setting up a temporary facility to service a customer that had been serviced from one of UPS Logistics' New Orleans facilities.

UPS Logistics consolidated all surplus equipment at other locations and had enough materials to set up this temporary facility, but needed project management and installation expertise to get the new facility up and running as quickly as possible.

Nelson and Technician Jeffrey Hamberger went into high gear and had a project manager and crew on site at the designated time to receive, stage, modify and install the equipment to UPS design standards. This was all accomplished in a matter of days.

In a time of great stress, this quick response by the Nelson Equipment team helped stabilize the customer and keep work flowing.

Fitting A Square Peg Into A Round Hole Saves Money

Jackie Edgar Ford and RV recently built a new facility in Beaux Bridge. A longtime customer of Nelson Equipment Co., Inc., owner Jackie Edgar knew that Nelson Equipment's Scott Callihan had her best interests in mind when he proposed taking apart the Western Pacific three-level Riveter Shelving Mezzanine he installed four years ago at Jackie Edgar's RV facility and moving it to the new Jackie Edgar Ford dealership.

Clearance height in the new facility, however, was only 16 feet, lower than the mezzanine. Callihan converted the three-level mezzanine into a two-level mezzanine and used the components from the third level to make 7-foot tall shelving units for use in other parts of the dealership.

This strategy of using an existing mezzanine and rearranging the layout to fit into the new facility resulted in significant cost savings for the customer, and highlights that doing business with Nelson Equipment Company, Inc. is a strategy worth considering.
